Asian Zing sauce is a condiment by Buffalo Wild Wings, a chain of restaurants known for its wings and various sauces. It is characterized by its sweet and spicy profile, combining flavors commonly found in Asian cuisine. It typically includes ingredients like soy sauce, ginger, garlic, sugar, and chili.

I love it as both a marinade and dip for my air fryer cauliflower and air fryer crispy tofu

It is an easy recipe to make ahead and you can easily scale the recipe up or down.

Full ingredients with measurements are available in the recipe card below at the end of this post

Soy sauce – dark soy sauce works better than light soy sauce.

Sweet chilli sauce – for spicy flavours, go for a chili garlic sauce or other spicy sauce like hot sauce

Sesame oil – adds wonderful asian flavors to the recipe. We love to use in this Schezwan sauce recipe too.

Brown sugar – optionally use maple syrup or honey and you can adjust the amount to get the sweet flavor that you want

Rice vinegar – if you do not have rice wine vinegar, use white vinegar

Minced garlic and fresh ginger – you could use garlic powder and ginger powder as an easy alternative but the flavors are definitely better with fresh!

Red pepper flakes or chili flakes. You could also use black pepper powder or white pepper powder as an alternative

Corn starch – made into a slurry for thickening

Optional – add lemon juice or lime juice for extra zing and sesame seeds for texture and flavour.

How to make Asian Zing Sauce

In a small saucepan, add the soy sauce, sugar, sweet chili sauce, vinegar, ginger-garlic and chili flakes

In a small bowl, mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with a little water to make a slurry. Add it to the sauce mixture and stir.

On a low to medium heat, heat the mixture until it reaches a simmer then turn off the heat. The sauce will thicken as it cools to room temperature and the flavours will meld.

Pro Tips

  • Customization – feel free to customize the sauce to suit your taste. If you prefer it sweeter, add more sugar or sweet chilli sauce; for more heat, add more red chilli flakes.
  • Gluten free – to make it gluten free, use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.
  • Consistency – adjust the thickness of the sauce to your liking. If you want it thicker, you can cook it a bit longer or add more cornstarch.
  • Marinating – this sauce works well as a marinade too. Marinate meat, fish or tofu for a few hours before cooking.
  • Fresh Ingredients – using fresh garlic and ginger will enhance the flavor of the sauce. Consider using a grater for finely minced garlic and ginger.

Serving Suggestion

The versatile and flavorful Asian Zing sauce can be used in various vegetarian dishes. Here are some serving suggestions and usage ideas:

  1. Vegetarian Stir Fry: Toss your favorite combination of vegetables (such as bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, snap peas, and mushrooms) in a wok or skillet with a bit of oil. Add the Asian Zing sauce and stir-fry until the veggies are tender-crisp. Serve over rice or noodles.
  2. Vegetarian Spring Rolls: Use the Asian Zing sauce as a dipping sauce for vegetarian spring rolls.
  3. Grilled Tofu Skewers: Marinate cubes of tofu in the Asian Zing sauce for a couple of hours. Thread the marinated tofu onto skewers and grill until lightly charred. Serve with additional sauce for dipping.
  4. Asian Zing Noodle Bowl: Toss cooked noodles (such as rice noodles or udon noodles) with the Asian Zing sauce. Add sautéed or steamed vegetables, tofu, and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  5. Asian Zing Cauliflower Wings: Coat cauliflower florets in a batter (flour, water, salt, and pepper). Bake or air-fry until crispy. Toss the cauliflower wings in the Asian Zing sauce before serving.
  6. Vegetarian Sliders or Sandwiches: Use the Asian Zing sauce as a condiment for vegetarian sliders or sandwiches. It adds a sweet and spicy kick to the flavors. I love it in these Instant Pot Bao Buns.

The Asian Zing sauce adds a delightful twist to vegetarian dishes, providing a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors.

Storage

Refrigeration – Asian Zing sauce, should be stored in the refrigerator. Make sure to transfer the sauce to an airtight container before refrigerating. Use within 1 week. If it thickens too much, add a splash of water

Freezing – If you don’t plan to use the sauce within a short period and want to extend its shelf life, you can consider freezing it. Freeze in small portions for easy thawing when needed. Use within 3 months. Thaw overnight and reheat gently in a saucepan.

Asian Zing Sauce is made of soy sauce, chili sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, fresh ginger garlic and red pepper flakes.

It has asian flavours and a sweet and spicy flavor profile. It has “zing” and tangy flavors too.

This air fryer bread recipe is super handy to achieve soft bakery style bread every single time.

You can make the perfect loaf of bread with a handful of basic ingredients and simple steps. It is also quicker to bake this white bread recipe in the air fryer compared with an oven.

You do not need too much equipment either, just a bowl, round pan and an air fryer!

When I want to make a larger batch, I make this Instant Pot Bread which uses the instant pot to prove the dough and a dutch oven to bake in the oven.

Easy Air Fryer Bread Ingredients

Full ingredients with measurements are available in the recipe card below at the end of this post

Flour – I have used strong white bread flour for this bread loaf.

Note that if you use whole wheat flour, you may need more water to achieve a craggy bread dough.

Alternatively, use all purpose flour.

Yeast – fast acting yeast aka fast action yeast, active dry yeast, instant yeast or quick rise yeast

Sugar – white granulated sugar

Salt

Oil – I have used extra virgin olive oil for a vegan bread recipe but you may use melted butter or ghee.

Water – tepid or lukewarm water

How to make white bread in the air fryer

In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients – flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

Add the warm water and olive oil.

Mix the ingredients with a wooden spoon or spatula until a dough forms.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size. I use the instant pot during the winter months.

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.

Place the dough on a lightly floured surface.

Shape the dough into a boule (ball) and place in an oiled 7 inch springform tin. Ensure the tin that you use fits your air fryer basket.

Allow for a second rise for 15-20 minutes.

Score the top of the dough if you wish.

Now, preheat your air fryer to 200C/400F for 5 minutes.

Place the tin in the warm air fryer basket and air fry at 200C/400F for around 10 minutes,

Then, lower the heat to 170C/350F and air fry for a further 20 minutes, checking periodically to ensure it doesn’t burn and that the top of the dough does not touch the heating element.

The bread is done when it has a golden brown crust, and tapping on it produces a hollow sound.

Allow the bread to cool on a cooling rack before slicing.

Recipe tips

The cooking time can vary depending on the air fryer model and size of the loaf. Adjust the temperature and time accordingly.

You may notice that in an air fryer, the bottom of the bread does not bake as well as the sides and top. If this happens to you, flip the bread over and air fry for a further 5 minutes (it may flatten the top of the bread)

Serving Suggestion

You can use this homemade bread recipe in a variety of ways.

  1. Spread a slice of fresh bread with butter and your favourite jam or fruit preserves for a classic and simple breakfast.
  2. Make air fryer toast and serve with peanut butter and chopped banana slices.
  3. Make air fryer garlic bread.
  4. Create your favourite sandwiches .
  5. Toast slices of bread and top them with a mixture of diced tomatoes, garlic, basil, olive oil, salt, and pepper for a tasty Italian appetizer.
  6. Serve alongside a bowl of soup for a comforting and satisfying meal.

Storage

  1. Room Temperature: Store bread at room temperature if you plan to consume it within 2 days. Use a bread box or an airtight container.
  2. Refrigeration: Refrigerating bread is not recommended as it can accelerate the staling process. However, if you have a high-humidity environment, storing bread in the fridge can help prevent mould growth.
  3. Freezing: Freezing is the best way to extend the shelf life of bread for a longer period. Use airtight, moisture-proof bags or wrap the bread tightly in plastic wrap and then place it in a freezer bag. Freeze bread as soon as possible to lock in freshness. Slice the bread before freezing to make it easier to thaw individual portions.
  4. Thawing: Room Temperature: Leave the bread at room temperature for a few hours or overnight. This is suitable for sliced bread. Toaster or Oven: Toasting or baking frozen bread slices can bring back crispiness. Microwave: Use the microwave for a quick thaw, but the texture may suffer.
