There are a number of names you can give to this sauce – creamy cilantro sauce, creamy cilantro lime sauce, cilantro cream sauce or creamy cilantro jalapeno sauce .

It is so easy to make – simply place all the ingredients into a blender and blend until you reach your desired consistency!

It is made with fresh cilantro, greek yogurt, jalapenos, garlic, lime juice, olive oil then seasoned with salt and pepper.

You can use creamy cilantro lime sauce on almost everything to add wonderful tangy yet creamy flavors. I love it with Mexican food but it goes surprisingly great with other cuisines like these Indian Onion Bhajis

I love variations to green sauce recipes like this Indian Mint Sauce and Coriander Mint Chutney or Basil Sauce

Creamy Cilantro Lime Sauce Ingredients

Cilantro – aka coriander. You need fresh cilantro leaves and the stems. The stems provide extra flavour, nutrition and texture

Greek yogurt – full fat plain greek yogurt works best but you can use low fat as a healthier alternative. You can also substitute in sour cream or mayonnaise but this will increase the saturated fat in the sauce

Jalapenos – you can also use any green chilli of choice. De seed for a milder sauce. Add more chillies if you want it spicier.

Garlic – fresh garlic cloves are best, as an alternative use garlic powder.

Olive oil – I have used extra virgin olive oil which helps emulsify the sauce

Lime juice – you can also use lemon juice

Salt and black pepper to taste

Optional extras:

Cumin – either cumin seeds or cumin powder. This gives a different flavour that tastes a bit more like coriander chutney.

How to make Creamy Cilantro Lime Dressing Recipe

In a blender or food processor, add the cilantro with some of the stems, garlic, chilli, lime juice, olive oil and seasoning.

Blitz until the mixture is finely minced.

Add in the yogurt and blend again. Blend until you reach whichever consistency you’re after.

By adding the yogurt in after, it allows the blender to crush the coriander a little bit better first.

Serve or store away in airtight jars for later.

Pro Tips

  • Use fresh cilantro that you’ve just bought or picked- wilted, yellowing leaves will not produce good results
  • Whizz up the cilantro and other ingredients without the yogurt first to finely mince in the blender. Adding the yogurt with the cilantro all at once prevents the leaves, garlic and chili from becoming finely chopped

Serving Suggestion

Use it in burgers, sandwiches, wraps, or as a salad dressing.

Add it to a burrito bowl with this Instant Pot Mexican Cilantro Lime Rice , Avocado and Mango Salsa along with grilled vegetables or even veggie chilli.

It goes great as a dip for quesadillas or wrapped in burritos or these air fryer fajitas .

Enjoy with Indian appetizers such as Air Fryer Onion Bhaji or Poppadoms .

On game day or get-togethers, serve these Crispy Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes or Air fryer Buffalo cauliflower

Have it with chicken, fish or shrimp.

Use it as a dressing for potato salad or eat with roasted potato.

Storage

This cilantro sauce keeps well in the fridge for about a week.

Ensure it is stored in an airtight container or jar.

I do not recommend freezing this sauce.

How to make Air Fryer Fajitas

Prepare your veggies and tofu.

I allowed the tofu to drain for 30 minutes then cut it into squares.

Slice the bell peppers and onions into thick strips.

I like to start by cooking the tofu then adding the veggies as tofu needs a little longer to crisp up

In a large mixing bowl, add the tofu, fajita seasoning and oil. Toss to coat well.

Place in a preheated air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry the tofu until it has just begun to crisp up or for around 3-5 minutes.

Whilst the tofu is cooking, mix the peppers and onions with the seasoning, oil and crushed tomatoes.

Mixed peppers an onions with seasoning in a bowl - 20 peppers and onions combined with seasoning and oil - 21

Once the tofu is starting to crisp, add in the peppers and onion mixture and air fry everything for another 4-5 minutes. You want to keep the veggies crunchy rather than soft so do not overcook.

For a smaller air fryer, you may have to work in batches.

Onions and peppers added to the half cooked tofu pieces in the air fryer basket - 22 cooked air fryer fajitas ready to serve on the table - 23 vegan fajitas served with soft drinks on the side - 24

Pro Tips

Ensure to drain the tofu thoroughly. Soggy tofu will lead to longer cooking times and a spongy texture

Cook the tofu before the peppers and onions. Peppers will start to burn and the tofu will not crisp up if it is all added at once.

Subtitution & Swaps

Oil-free fajitas – simply skip oil or oil spray totally.

Gluten- free – the fajita filling is naturally gluten-free. Use corn tortillas or gluten-free tortillas instead of flour tortillas.

Grain – free – You can even substitute the tortillas for lettuce and serve the air fryer fajita tofu and vegetables as a salad or lettuce wrap.

Serving Suggestion

You can go with any of your favourite Mexican toppings here:

  • Top with sour cream or cilantro Pesto or sour cream and chive dip
  • mango pico de gallo
  • mango and avocado salsa or guacamole
  • fresh strawberry avocado salsa
  • fresh cilantro and jalapeños
  • you can also add grated cheddar cheese or vegan cheese of choice
  • serve with lime slices or lime wedges

Wrap in either corn tortillas or flour tortillas for a complete meal.

Make it a fajita bowl with the above and Instant Pot Mexican Cilantro Lime Rice . Serve some Air Fryer Carrot Fries on the side.

I love this Mango Mocktail as a refreshing drink

Finish with this Mexican strawberries and cream – Fresas con Crema .

air fryer fajitas served on a roasted tortilla wrap and topped with salsa - 25

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container and keep in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or the air fryer.

I do not recommend freezing this recipe – the tofu and cooked veggies will loose their texture in the freezer and upon thawing.
